Let’s continue of the subject of “what screams summer?” Other than ice cream, one of the best parts of summer is the harvest season! Oh, the cherries, peaches, apricots, tomatoes and corn! All of it, I want all of it! And the colours of the fruit and veggies! So inspiring!
To celebrate the harvest, this month I am giving away one of my new jewel drop necklaces in your choice of Ocean or Snow Queen! Let’s talk about the summer harvest, what’s your favourite seasonal fruit or veggie? In your opinion what fruit or veggie stops you in your tracks and screams “this is it, this is summer right here!”
A winner will be drawn at random on September 1.

Fresh cherry tomatoes out of my garden!
I usually crave stone fruits like peaches and nectarines in summer, but I discovered that some watermelon, muddled a bit, in a bit pitcher of water, makes THE most delicious drink for a hot day, so now I’m watermelon-obsessed.
It has to be corn on the cob. It is the only time of year it tastes so great!
Tomatoes are absolutely my most favourite summer treat. I suffer through bland tomatoes in the winter, anxiously awaiting the juicy, flavourful, fresh off the vine, local tomatoes. This year I decided to go extremely local and plant them in my back yard. I have 12 plants that are keeping my family well stocked so far! I see canning in my near future so I can cook with these delicious tomatoes all winter.
Tomatoes – tomatoes that I have grown from seed – we check the plants every day, and eat them straight from the plant…Aila, our dog, also likes tomatoes – and during the morning check, she isn’t happy till she’s had her taste.
A glass bowl of freshly served delicious strawberries are a favourite seasonal fruit of mine – just on their own, they are a wonderfully natural tasty summertime treat!
Without a doubt…cherries:)
My favourite summer harvest fruit or vegetable, bar none, is peaches and cream corn-on-the-cob!
For me the best is the tomato which is really a fruit but we use it as vegetable. So many kinds and so many uses. Enjoy. Have a great trip this fall.
Cheers, Sue
Watermelon is my fave summer fruit!
Blueberries – only wild and only in season! Amazing that something that is so good for us tastes so delicious!

Without a doubt………SWEET CORN…Smothered in REAL BUTTER and little bit of salt and a little bit of pepper. Stand back while my corn has arrived. I eat it like the old fashioned typewriter…like my mama did, Eat on the row,,,turn the cob and here we go with the other row….If you are not a corn on the SWEET cob lover you may have no idea what you are missing. Clearly I am rambling…..SWEET CORN RULES!
Tomatoes of any kind. I particularly enjoy going out to the garden and picking cherry tomatoes while they are still warm from the summer sun. I could eat them by the handful. Lunch box tomatoes sprinkled with basil and feta cheese place a close second!

All year I wait for my favourite fruit….. Peaches! I only eat them while they’re fresh!!
Fave veggie has to be fresh Ontario corn….don’t forget the butter and salt….. But bar none…. There is nothing better than a ripe Ontario peach… Juicy, sweet perfection!
Favorite vegetable is red beets fresh from the garden with the greens steamed as a second vegetable. No waste with this veggie!
Peaches and Cream Corn. Summer is here for sure when that appears at the markets!

Yellow wax beans. Memories of picking them as a child from my mom’s vegetable garden half an hour before dinner, cutting off the ends, cooking them, then spreading them with butter and sprinkling on some salt, listening to them squeak as I ate. . . . heaven. Still a family favourite at this time of year.
summer starts with strawberries, comes into full bloom with corn and ends with cranberries
Watermelon is my favorite summer fruit,my boys and I love!!
How about corn with lime & paprika. Yum.
strawberries xx
My favorite fruit is avocado. It is very good for your health and can be used in many recipes.
My mother planted avocado tree at the back of our ancentral home and when my siblings and I were growing up she used to tell us that it will still be there for her grandchildren to enjoy.
Lucious cantaloupe from Bay City, MI
There has got to be something in the dirt that mskes them soooooo juicy snd tasty.
watermelon
This is a tough on because there are so many delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables. For the summer seasonal fruit I would have to say strawberries are on of my favourites. This fruit seems to somehow celebrate the beginning of summer. There is nothing like fresh strawberries grown in Canada. I love how you can make strawberry daiquiris, preparados, sorbet, pie, freezer jam, shortcakes or just east all by themselves in a bowl with ice cream.
My favorite seasonal veggie would have to be fresh snap peas smothered in butter with salt and pepper, eat them alone as a meal with fresh bread and butter. It brings back happy memories of my Mum cooking them for me when I was a child, I no longer have Mum but I cherish her memory every day.
I love cherries!
my favorite seasonal veggie has to be corn on the cob!
Hi Catherine,
If I had to choose a favourite colour it would have to be blue. I love the various shades of blue. When you look out on a lake or ocean I love how it has the different tones of blue especially on a beautiful sunny day. Look up at the sky on a sunny day and see the fluffy white clouds and blue sky, I love the dramatic contrasts that the clouds create. I love blue flowers. Apparently there are not too many flowers that are blue. I love blue morning glories, blue delphiniums, blue lobelias, grape hyacinths, blue hydrangeas, balloon flower, and the Blue Himalayan Poppy. Yes, blue is a beautiful colour.

I would love to move to Florida and live in a pink house!
My favourite colour, all the different hues and tones of blue. It represents a calming feeling reflecting the sea, sky and my Siamese cat’s eyes. Blue represents a sense of happiness, peace and love.
My favourite seasonal fruit will always be big, fresh, juicy, bursting with sunshine tomatoes!

Peaches. Definitely Niagara Peaches.
I love them all. All the berries, peaches (yum), squash, beets, greens, tomatoes (Ahhhh!). I remember as a kid the first of the seasonal veggies. Since there was never enough of one veggie there was a mix of everything; peas, carrots and potatoes. My tummy rumbles just thinking about that little pot. We are blessed which such abundance. J
