not so cuddly

Poison must be ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Venom is injected, in nature usually through a fang.

Did you know that? I didn’t, it’s just one of the amazing things I learnt on my field trip out of the studio yesterday. We went to Reptilia, a private reptile zoo in Vaughan, ON. Very very cool, assuming you don’t mind the creepy crawly type of cool. I’m fine with it as long as it’s in a cage. Mid afternoon during the week is the perfect time to go as we were the only visitors. The very nice and informative keeper (trainer?) offered to let us hold something however as I mentioned, I’m fine with creepy crawly as long as it’s in a cage.

We lucked out and watched several feedings, no, I won’t post those photos I admit they’re a bit gruesome. The snakes are feed every 14 days. Remind me not to come back in another life as a snake I personally prefer to eat more frequently and I’m not so keen on the dead rat diet. Of course as I wandered and oogled the little part of my brain that is obsessed with glass kept looking at these and thinking, wow now that would be an awesome bead. (Actually I thought the anacondas and the reticulated pythons would also be awesome purses).

Look at the texture on this green mamba’s skin. Now that is a bead waiting to happen.
