HOME - this month December- waterway restrictions

Coast Guard at Heightened State of Alert
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Press Release announcing that while U.S. ports remain open, the service is at a heightened state of alert. The frequency and vigilance of armed USCG patrols has been increased. Another Press Release describes the expanded vessel screening and escort process. Mariners should exercise caution so as to avoid entering safety or security zones without approval and should expect delays in entering port. (10/7/01).

September 11, 2001 forever changed our world. All travellers can expect an increase in security when it comes to borders, including the watery borders. Anyone cruising in the next few months should check out any potential problem areas.

There are 3 web sites with information that are helpful to cruisers:

Most, but not all, restrictions, apply to commercial vessels.
