Wassup with the jewelry you ask?

It's a long story, bear with me, this is where I tie all the loose ends together. (I'll bet the suspense is killing you.)

Did you read this months words of wisdom, about how you never really go back? Well, I've always had wanderlust and a bit of a free spirit. For a while (10 years), there was that thing, a "real" job(s). You know it, the one where you work towards a career, an acronymed job title, benefit plans, and all the other stuff that goes with it. Real jobs do have their perks, a regular paycheque being the biggest in my opinion. Money is good, it allows us to buy things like boats and boat toys. What a "career" job rarely allows us to do on the other hand is have the time to use these toys. And during this "career" job of mine, I bought a sailboat and went cruising down south. I came back, at least in body.

The final straw for me was being told that I couldn't take my four weeks vacation in a row, that I had to take four separate weeks. Huh? It was time to figure out another way of earning a living. This didn't happen overnight but where there's a will there's a way.

So now I've morphed into a jewelry designer. Me, who in the past wouldn't have called myself artistic. Will I get rich? Not likely. I do know that I'm having fun, setting my own hours and am taking four months off this winter to go sailing. It works for me.

The jewelry thing began on a beach. I collected a lot of seashells and I created jewelry with them. They looked a bit monochormatic so I bought some bright coloured glass beads to zip them up a bit. I got hooked on glass. So I took a course in making glass beads. All my pieces are inspired by the ocean and sailing in bright fun tropical places. They are very Sailorgirl in attitude.

When I began writing this site, I knew I wanted to go cruising. I didn't know where this site or I were going but I was willing to give it a shot. It may sound really sappy and trite but it's true, you cannot discover new oceans if you're not willing to lose sight of the shore. Go for it.
