OK, it's time to come clean. You have asked dear readers, I shall unveil and stop the mystery.
Sailorgirl
is my personal web site. I, Catherine Winter, am Sailorgirl.
I sail with the Pirate Guy (Colin Baker) for 4 or 5 months a year, home base the Florida Keys, and then we return to our northern home to replenish the cruising kitty. Up north I crew on a race boat (Shock Therapy, a Schock 35) and sail on other people's boats. Forbidden Planet, our CS27, spends the whole year down south. We leave her in a storage yard in Florida.
I began this site when we were planning our cruise to Cuba in 2001. When I searched online I found little cruisering information about Cuba. So in the spirit of cruising (always share information, preferably over cocktails!) I decided to publish my findings and my adventures. I love cruising. I love sharing information. I love the boating community. What could be a better fit than a web site?
Being a personal site, this is written in my spare time and published for free. Occasionally I do publish stories in magazines and they even pay me! You, the lucky reader, do not have to shell out a single doubloon to share this sail. One day, maybe this will help fill the cruising kitty. In the meantime, I will continue to publish when I can find time. (Of course, donations are always welcome! I take yen, deutschemarks, dollars, doubloons or rum!)
Sailorgirl is here to tell you that you too can go sailing. Get a dinghy and find a lake. Trailer sail on distant lakes. Sell everything you own and set off around the world. The important thing is to live the dream. I am. So can you. In some way shape or form, cast off the dock lines. That's the first step.
